78 RPM records (sheallcs / acetates / gramophone records) need a special needle.

It is fatter and blunter than normal needles, so if you want to play them you cannot use your regular needle.

Rather than swapping your needle on the same cartridge all the time, it’s far safer and easier to have an entirely separate headshell assembly – they are far easier to swap so the risk if damage to your needle is minimised.

A single needle is already $109 so for a little more money you can have the easier and better option.
