TURNTABLE SERVICE
Hi there, thanks for checking us out. We will gladly trouble-shoot any turntable and most old decks usually just need a new needle or belt, which we can help you with in store. But please contact us first because for electrical or mechanical repairs we can only help you with Technics 1200/1210 (MK2,3,5) and Audio-Technica turntables.
PLEASE LEAVE YOUR LIDS/DUST COVERS AND HEADSHELL-ASSEMBLIES AT HOME
We do not need them to service your deck, and they are easliy damaged.
Service Details
Technics SL1200/1210 DJ Turntables
This is our speciality. Usual service turnaround time is 1 week. If it’s URGENT, we can maybe bribe our tech, so let’s chat. Please do not bring dust covers, needles/carts or 45 adaptors.
FULL SERVICE costs $180. This may seem like more than the other limited options you have in Sydney, but we have a licenced electrician/tech and we will never, ever commit the electrical sin/physics tautology of internally grounding. Our guy can sniff out dry solder at 100 paces so your deck will be in tiptop shape when you get it back. All work guaranteed.
FOR REPAIRS we take an $80 non-refundable deposit per deck, this covers labour to diagnose your issues. Should you deside to go ahead with the repair/service, the $80 will count towards that. Note, most bits on the 1200/1210s can be repaired at reasonable cost, but serious motherboard or tone arm issues can escalate rapidly. We will not undertake any work without your express approval and sign off on costs.
Audio-Technica turntables under warranty
no problem, no $$, but please contact us first because we will most likely direct you to take your unit to the service centre in Stanmore, you will need your receipt which we can provide (if you bought your TT from us).
Audio-Technica turntables out of warranty
No problem, but may incur costs. Please contact us first because we will most likely direct you to take your unit to the service centre in Stanmore, but would love to help trouble shoot over the phone or in store first, to save you $$ if we can.
FOR ALL OTHER BRANDS AND MODELS
These fall into two categories of the 'can you help me with my deck’ variety:
If the problem is cosmetic. Needles and belts and other superficial stuff - we can generally help you, but if not, we can certainly troubleshoot and advise you on the best course of action, so please contact us with a detailed description of the issues you are having
Electrical. We don’t have the capacity to get inside your machine and fiddle about with circuit boards and wires. The best person in Sydney to help you out with this Gray Read: Email gray@earthaudio.com.au and tell him we sent you. Address: 12 Faversham St, Marrickville NSW 2204. Phone: 0449 159 625
PLEASE CALL FIRST SO WE CAN TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON BEFORE YOU SCHELP YOUR RIG IN and PLEASE NOTE, it often costs more to fix old turntables with electronic issues than to buy a new deck — and most new turntables now come with internal pre-amps, so you can plug them into anything.
We suggest getting a quote before any repair and if it/s too exxy, grab a fresh turntable from us. It’s often not worth going down this rabbit hole with old decks.

THE FACTS
Technics 1200s are a classic and hardworking piece of engineering. That said, even these work-horses need some love and affection (note, from the amount of dried beer we find inside them we understand they have been probably already been receiving too much affection).
So, we have assembled somewhat of a lab/shrine to the 1200 out the back and engaged the services of the handsome tank-engine (massive nerd) below, who meticulously fixes your deck/s up.
From that bit of fluff under the pitch fader to testing the frequency at which your chips are humming, he does the lot: leads, lights, lube, pitch, clean and calibrate (obligatory) and anything else they may need.
For repairs we take a non-refundable $80 deposit and then our Mr Spock dives in to your deck and ascertains what the problem (i.e. not working, spinning too fast, not actually having a power supply etc) and upon diagnosis, we will contact you and let you know the costs of replacing these parts before we go ahead with any work.
SERVICE INCLUDES
TEST: tone arm bearing, tone arm contact points, lamp, anti-skate, tone arm cueing lever, 33rpm and 45 rpm buttons. REPLACE: RCA cables, earth lead and light. IN ADDITION: we calibrate pitch, lubricate the spindle and tone arm bearing and clean the unit inside and out.
Basically we test everything that move and/or can stuff up and make sure you get a fully working deck back.
DISCLAIMER
We will take all care but no responsibility for needles/carts/45 adaptors or any other loose accessories left with your deck. While we treat your deck like the precious gem it is, we don’t need your needle to do the work and they, being fragile, breakable and losable are not something we want or need to have being transported to, from and within the store. So for everyone’s peace of mind ‑ unless you have a specific problem with your needles ‑ please take them off your deck/before you bring them in.
