TURNTABLE SERVICE

Hi there, thanks for checking us out. We will gladly trouble-shoot any turntable and most old decks usually just need a new needle or belt, which we can help you with in store.

Having said that please contact us first because for electrical or mechanical repairs we can only help you with Technics 1200/1210 (MK2-6) and Audio-Technica turntables.

NOTE: We do not service Technics MK7. They not related to the OG series in anyway other than name. They have multiple quality and performance issues, and are not durable. Whereas the old models could last up to 20 years in a club environment, we are seeing the MK7s start to fall after 2 years. Sorry if you bought some :(

Service Details

  • Technics SL1200/1210 turntables - pricing here

  • Turnaround Usual service turnaround time is 1-2 weeks from the Friday after you drop off.

    We strive for one but it often stretches to two - if it’s URGENT, we may be able to bribe our tech but he is a busy fella, so let’s chat first if you are in a hurry.

  • Please do not bring dust covers, needles/carts or 45 adaptors.

  • Please do not ask for internal grounding. Other than being an oxymoron it’s bad, bad, bad idea.

    • FULL SERVICE

      Technics 1200/1210s are a classic and hardworking piece of engineering. That said, even these work-horses need some love and affection (although, from the amount of dried beer we find inside some of them we understand they have already probably been receiving too much affection).

      We have assembled somewhat of a lab/shrine to the 1200 out the back and have access to nerds who can wield soldering irons like light sabres.

      ———————-

      A FULL SERVICE (labour and all basic parts) includes ...

      * Replacement of all leads & plugs (this is now necessary on all decks - they are that old).

      * All necessary lights.

      * Calibration, lubrication and full clean inside and out.

      * Test, calibrate & clean tonearm.

      * Testing of all connections and power flow.

      * All work is guaranteed.
      ____________

    • ADDITIONAL PARTS: If your deck should require any additional parts, we will quote you on those before that work is undertaken. They usually don't, but sometimes the fader is not redeemable and sometimes the printed circuit boards are not worth trying to save.

    • REPAIR (Entails a Basic Service) For small jobs like an earth lead or target light we still need to do a basic service and clean to get to your issue and make sure nothing else is going to go wrong - this is simply best practice with these decks.

    • DIAGNOSE FAULTS we take an $80 non-refundable deposit per deck, this covers labour to diagnose your issues. Should you deside to go ahead with the repair/service, the $80 will count towards that. Note, most bits on the 1200/1210s can be repaired at reasonable cost, but serious motherboard or tone arm issues can escalate rapidly. We will not undertake any work without your express approval and sign off on costs.

  • Audio-Technica turntables under warranty

    • No problem, no $$, but please contact us first because we will most likely direct you to take your unit to the service centre in Stanmore, you will need your receipt which we can provide (if you bought your TT from us).

  • Audio-Technica turntables out of warranty

    • No problem, but may incur costs. Please contact us first because we will most likely direct you to take your unit to the service centre in Stanmore, but would love to help trouble shoot over the phone or in store first, to save you $$ if we can.

  • FOR ALL OTHER BRANDS AND MODELS

    • These fall into two categories of the 'can you help me with my deck’ variety:

      • If the problem is cosmetic. Needles and belts and other superficial stuff - we can generally help you, but if not, we can certainly troubleshoot and advise you on the best course of action, so please contact us with a detailed description of the issues you are having

      • Electrical. We don’t have the capacity to get inside your machine and fiddle about with circuit boards and wires. The best person in Sydney to help you out with this Gray Read: Email gray@earthaudio.com.au and tell him we sent you. Address: 12 Faversham St, Marrickville NSW 2204. Phone: 0449 159 625

PLEASE CALL FIRST SO WE CAN TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON BEFORE YOU SCHLEP YOUR RIG IN and PLEASE NOTE, it often costs more to fix old turntables with electronic issues than to buy a new deck — and most new turntables now come with internal pre-amps, so you can plug them into anything.

We suggest getting a quote before any repair and if it/s too exxy, grab a fresh turntable from us. It’s often not worth going down this rabbit hole with old decks.

DISCLAIMER

We will take all care but no responsibility for needles/carts/45 adaptors or any other loose accessories left with your deck. While we treat your deck like the precious gem it is, we don’t need your needle to do the work and they, being fragile, breakable and losable are not something we want or need to have being transported to, from and within the store. So for everyone’s peace of mind ‑ unless you have a specific problem with your needles ‑ please take them off your deck/before you bring them in.
